I may look 21 but I am in my sixties
Hello
My name is Melvin and I have been on the internet since Windows 95. In those days AOL (America Online) was my ISP (Internet Service Provider) and, like the vast majority of
people, I had dial-up internet access.
Yes, in those good old days, mobile phones were only for phone calls and you had to be in a city to get a decent connection.
At home, phones were plugged into a static phone line in a wall in your house or office. If you wanted access to the internet then your computer would use your phone line. You could not use the internet and your telephone at the same time.
How smug was I when I got a second phone line through a cable TV company? I could use the internet on one line and my chattering wife could use the phone on the other.
But that is enough of me talking about things that only a quarter of the oldest third of the population will remember.
I worked for 7 years in the office of a building company learning all the lingo but none of the skills of the trade.
Next, I worked in a life assurance office for much longer than I deserved (not on computers) and then became self-employed buying books and selling them online through Amazon and Abebooks. That business is winding down now, but it is still there. If you see “Broadleigh Books” online that is me.
So now I am spreading my wit and wisdom about the online world. I want to share what I know, new programs and new online ideas with you.
I think you will enjoy it.
